🌿 Our Story

About the
Initiative

A movement born from devotion, grown through action.

One Aarti.
One Question.

It began on a monsoon evening in 2025. A group of devotees stood on the banks of the Cauvery in Erode, lamps held high, prayers rising like smoke. When the ceremony ended and they looked down, they saw the water — dark, plastic-choked, foul-smelling. One of them asked aloud: "If we truly believe this river is sacred, why do we leave her like this?"

That question became the seed of Cauvery Aarti — a grassroots initiative that unites spiritual practice with environmental action. We believe that if a river is worthy of worship, she is worthy of protection.

🎯

Mission

To restore the Cauvery river's ecological health by combining community-led cleanup drives with the cultural power of aarti and river worship traditions.

👁

Vision

A Cauvery that future generations inherit clean — where fish thrive, water is drinkable and the evening aarti is offered to a river that truly shines.

💎

Values

Reverence, responsibility, community, transparency and joy. We believe environmental action must be rooted in love — not just urgency.

Ritual + Responsibility

01

Awareness Drives

We run monthly awareness campaigns at temples and ghats, educating devotees about the impact of ritual waste on river ecosystems.

02

Cleanup Events

Bi-weekly cleanup drives with trained volunteers. Waste is collected, segregated and processed through our recycling partners.

03

Eco-Ritual Shift

We work with priests and temple trusts to replace harmful offerings with biodegradable alternatives — without diminishing the spiritual experience.

04

Science Integration

Monthly water quality testing with results shared publicly. We partner with environmental science departments for ongoing monitoring.

05

Riparian Planting

Native tree planting on eroded riverbanks prevents soil runoff and restores natural habitats for birds, fish and insects.

06

Youth Leadership

School and college chapters across the basin keep the movement alive between drives and ensure the next generation inherits the mission.

Driven by Devotion

Our core team is small but our community is growing. What unites us is not profession or background — it is love for a river.

If you want to put your hands, time or skills to work — a phone call is all it takes.
